MARLBOROUGH 一 Superintendent Ernest F. Houle is pleased to announce that Assabet Regional Vocational Technical High School recognized women in construction fields during a ceremony.
Assabet Valley held a special celebration to promote the role of women in the construction industry on Thursday, March 7. The celebration was held as part of both Women's History Month and Women in Construction Week, which takes place March 6-10.
Students and guests gathered together to celebrate at Assabet's student-operated restaurant, the Epicurean Restaurant. Attendees participated in icebreaker activities and listened to guest speakers Lisa Clauson, member of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, and Alex Colonna of the Painters and Glaziers Union, share their knowledge and experiences of working in the industry.
The ceremony concluded with a group photo and the signing of a wooden plaque by all Assabet female students in construction technical programs. The sign will be hung in the school as a reminder of the strength and unity of women in construction.
The theme of this year's Women in Construction Week was "Many Paths, One Mission." The message aims to celebrate the different journeys women have taken toward the same goal: strengthening and amplifying the success of women in the construction industry.
"Our celebration served as a great way for the Assabet community to come together and recognize the work of our female trade students," said Superintendent Houle. "The construction trades employ fewer than 25 percent women, which makes our students part of an extraordinary group that should be recognized for their accomplishments. Each of these young women should be very proud."
