Whiteoak baseball wins Deb’s Wooden Bat Classic; Moon

MOWRYSTOWN — The Whiteoak Wildcats earned two victories on Saturday and in the process were the winners of the 2023 Deb's Classic Whiteoak Wooden Bat Invitational held at WHS on April 8.

In their two games, the Wildcats defeated Rock Hill 20-0, followed by a 16-0 win over Trimble in the championship game. In the other two games played, Hillsboro lost to Trimble, 8-3, but the Indians gained their first win of the season by defeating Rock Hill, 13-8 in the third-place game.

Starting with Whiteoak on Saturday, they scored four runs in the first inning, then scored 12 runs in the second and four runs in the third for their 20-run total.

On the mound, Kaden Moon-Stone (2-0) pitched five innings, allowing no hits, four walks and he struck out six batters as he faced 20 batters in the no-hitter.

At the plate against Rock Hill, Luken Roades was 2-for-4 with two runs, one steal, one walk and he hit a home run.

Landon Barnett went 3-for-4 with a triple, three steals, a walk and four runs. Teammate Carson Emery finished 2-for-2 with three runs, one steal, a walk, two doubles and he collected three RBI.

Nate Price ended the game with two walks, he was hit by a pitch and he scored three runs. Ian Griffith was 2-for-3 with three runs and a walk, and he batted in a runner for an RBI.

Eli Roberts finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs, seven RBI, a home run, a double and drew a walk. Zander Roades was 2-for-2 with one run, three RBI, he was hit by a pitch, one steal and a walk.

David Donohoo scored a run, while Moon-Stone collected an RBI, two walks and a steal.

In the championship game, the Wildcats defeated Trimble, 16-0.

WHS scored one run in the first inning, followed by a three-run third inning, and they capped off the scoring with a 12-run fourth inning for their 16-run total.

Carson Emery was the winning pitcher as he pitched five innings, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk. Emery faced 19 batters, striking out five batters.

Luken Roades was 2-for-2 with four runs, three RBI, one steal and two walks. Barnett went 2-for-4, scoring three runs, three RBI and one steal.

Emery ended the day 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI and one walk. Price ended his game 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI and one walk. Ian Griffith was 1-for-2 with one run, one steal and two walks.

Eli Roberts scored one run, one RBI and two walks, while Zander Roades was 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and two steals. Donohoo finished 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and a walk. Moon-Stone scored one run and was hit by a pitch.
