The bodies of two minor siblings were found inside a wooden box at a house in Delhi's Batla House area on Tuesday, causing panic in the locality with senior police officials and media turning up in large numbers.

The deceased have been identified as Neeraj (8) and Arti (6), said the police. After seeing the bodies in the trunk, residents informed police.

A PCR call was received on Tuesday at the Jamia Nagar police station, informing them about the bodies found inside a house at Joga Bai Extension, following which a police team rushed to the spot.

"On reaching the spot, the police found the bodies of the two children inside an old wooden box (sandook). The two kids used to live in the house with their parents. Their father Balbir works as a chowkidar," said Rajesh Deo, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).

During the initial probe, it was revealed that the deceased children had lunch with their parents at around 3 pm and went missing afterwards.

"During a search, the parents and their other children found the bodies inside the box. The crime team has confirmed that there were no injury marks on the bodies, and it is believed that the two children died of asphyxia," the DCP said.

However, there is a murmur in the area with locals suspecting foul play, including murders.

The deceased use to live in this house with their parents Balbir who works as a guard (chowkidar) on the property.
